Avatar: The Illuminated World of Pandora

At the 2010 Academy Awards, Ben Stiller dressed up as a Na’vi to introduce the award for Best Make-up. While not nominated in that category, Avatar did take home the awards for Best Cinematography, Art Direction, and Visual Effects.

For our last creature feature spotlight, we’re focusing on the Tetrapteron (Na'vi name: fkio). Here’s a fun fact on the build… I used a blue lobster claw (part 92944) to make his little head.

In 2018, Time Magazine released a list of top 100 greatest places in the world to visit. Pandora: The World of Avatar at Walt DisneyWorld made the list for its amazing rides, animatronics, and its bioluminescent botanical garden that glows neon after sunset.

Today’s featured creature is a very shy inhabitant of the Pandoran forests. So shy in fact, that if you blinked while watching Avatar, you might have missed him. This is the tapirus (Na'vi name: fwampop).

In the movie Avatar, one of the books used for teaching the Na’vi kids was “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss. The book mirrors the film’s theme and story of environmental protection against corporate greed.

If you’ve ever been to Pandora: The World of Avatar at Walt DisneyWorld, you might have been soaked by today’s featured creature, the Sagittaria (Na’vi name: skuka).

In Avatar, Jake's atrophied legs were prosthetics cast from the legs of a real paraplegic. Sam Worthington's real legs were tucked into the wheelchair and digitally removed in post-production.
