DID YOU KNOW... Season 2 of Stranger Things was partially influenced by Gremlins! On the show, Dustin's pet Dart was partly inspired by Gizmo. Just like in Gremlins, Dart evolved from a harmless pet into a dangerous creature.

Some of you might know that I’m Filipino. I figured I’d share this fun bit of of Filipino Gremlins trivia for today's post…

"Huwag kang magpaulan baka dumami ka." 

In English it translates to “Don’t get wet in the rain, you might multiply.”

Today there are many Filipinos who use the line without knowing what it means or where it comes from. The phrase was initially a joke inspired by the movie Gremlins. It featured little monsters that multiply when doused with water. Through the years, the joke has lost much of its original context and has become a uniquely Filipino expression humorously used when it's raining outside. Who knew Gremlins could have such a lasting effect on Filipinos? TIL!

DID YOU KNOW... Looney Tunes animator Chuck Jones has a short cameo appearance in the movie Gremlins. In Gremlins 2, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck appear in the opening scene and end credits of the film.

DID YOU KNOW... Gremlins have appeared in other movies outside of Gremlins 1 and 2. Gremlins have made appearances in Ready Player One, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and even the LEGO Batman movie.

Today is the birthday of Gremlins screenwriter, Chris Columbus! I can't imagine what our childhoods would be like without his many magical movies. From Gremlins to Goonies, Home Alone to Harry Potter, his films have helped define our generation.
