The Colossus of Rhodes (Minifigure Scale)

About the Colossus of Rhodes:

The idea for this set is based on the colossus of Rhodes. The massive brazen statue was one of the seven world wonders of the ancient world, build in 280 BC. near the harbor of the City of Rhodes on the Greek island Rhodes. The statue is said to have depicted Helios and was build to celebrate the defense of the city against the attack of Demetrius I of Macedon.

Even though the colossus doesn't exist anymore, it is assumed that the statue was made of hammered bronze mixed with copper. It changed color over time and created a patina which gave the statue a greenish finish, similar to color of the Statue of Liberty.
Compared to todays sophisticated construction methods, it is believed that colossus had one of his arms close to the body and the other arm put to his forehead - resembling an viewing into the distance position.
This helped to maintain stability to the overall structure. He also presumably had a crown shaped similar to sun strakes ranging away from the top of his head.

The colossus was constructed by Chares of Lindos and had a size of about 33 metres. The Statue had an great impact on the statue of liberty and on the fantasy of many people even after centuries and millenia.
Unfortunately the colossus has been destroyed in 226 BC due to an earthquake.

The idea for this set consists of:

・An approximation of the statue of the Colossus of Rhodes in clothing and in Minifigure scale.
・A diorama styled section of harbor with a beach section and the foundation of the colossus and a tree.
・3 Rhodian Citizens working at the harbor or going out for a walk.
・A small Rhodian fishing boat
・The set has about 2100 parts & the colossus has a height of 69cm.
