The idea for this set introduces a selection of different old disciplines and the ignition of the torch at the temple of Hera. The Olympic games have a long history dating back to the eight century BC, starting in Olympia - a small town on the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece.

Brief History:
It is believed that the first games where held to honor Zeus and that these games have a mythological origin. The first games were only held on one day but then extended from 3 to 5 days in later centuries. Every 4 years, during the ancient Olympic festivities, many sacred fires were kept burning at the Olympic site and lit near the temple of Zeus & Hera. The ignition is also a part of the present Olympic ceremony.
With the help of a parabolic mirror sunlight is focused to ignite the Olympic torch. For the ancient Olympics, participants & competitors traveled from many different cities & regions from within Greece to the city of Olympia to compete in various disciplines.

The following selection of traditional disciplines are represented in this set:
・ Running
・ Wrestling
・ Javelin
・ Chariot Race (Part of the Equestrian Event)

The Set:
