As my first Lego Ideas submission, this is a train I made and have had sitting on my desk for a little over a year. It is such a great little desk build that could make a great set.
Celebrate the golden age of steam with this intricate model of Stephenson's Planet, the iconic 1830 locomotive that revolutionized railway engineering. This detailed replica captures the locomotive's distinctive design, featuring a bright yellow boiler, spoked wheels, and connecting rods. The faithfully modeled tender carries a coal load. Accompanying the model is a minifigure of Robert Stephenson, complete with a suit and vest.
The set includes:
- A detailed Planet locomotive and tender
- Custom track piece for display
- Robert Stephenson Minifigure
- A plaque with historical details about the locomotive
Although a more often looked-over locomotive from the time, the Planet was built after Stephenson's Rocket. The Planet was built for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway and was the first train built for service with a steam dome and interior cylinders. It's service lasted about 10 years, much longer than any of its predecessors. This set is perfect for train enthusiasts, history buffs, and LEGO builders alike, and it bridges the gap between engineering ingenuity and historical displays.
