The Ohio State University Marching Band is one of the most famous marching bands in the world. The band formed in 1878 and has had a significant impact on the marching arts in its nearly 150-year history. The band has become known for its innovative show design and has won many awards for its accomplishments. The band also has several world-famous traditions, including its ramp entrance, performances of Hang on Sloopy, and the Incomparable Script Ohio.

The Inspiration
I have had the privilege of being a member of the band since 2020. When I first joined the band, I saw the dedication and comradery among my peers and knew I had joined something special. A year after joining, I was inspired to work on something to pay tribute to the band. I decided I would do so by combining my love of music with one of my favorite hobbies: Lego! I built a model of an Ohio State band member. To go along with the model, I built a baritone, trombone, trumpet, sousaphone, and bass drum.

The Idea
My submission to Lego Ideas is a brick-built figure of an Ohio State University Marching Band member in a style like a cross between a Brickheadz and one of the recent Star Wars or superheroes brick-built figures. This model would come with a display stand so it can be posed without falling. The model would also come with pieces and instructions to build either a trumpet, trombone, baritone, sousaphone, snare drum, cymbals, or bass drum. These instruments would mostly be made of the same pieces, with some larger pieces specific to the sousaphone and bass drum. This would be functionally similar to the Creator 3-in-1 sets. The idea is that someone can buy multiple of this set so that they can build a band complete with many of the instruments in the real band.

This would be the perfect set for people who love music, marching band, or Ohio State. With the 150-year anniversary of the Ohio State University Marching Band approaching soon, this is the perfect time to have something unique that captures the spirit of the band and recognizes its unique history!

The Build
The model is about 10 inches tall with the base.

The model has 16 points of articulation at its neck, shoulders, elbow, wrist, hips, knees, and ankles. These points of articulation allow for posing the model. Some of my favorite include with the leg raised in the 90-degree chair step, and with outstretched horn at the end of Hang on Sloopy.

The model primarily uses black pieces for the uniform color; however, the band officially uses a dark shade of navy-blue as the base color. The skin tone of the model should be interchangeable, similar to the instrument builds. This would be to help people of different backgrounds feel represented by this set.
