Mata Nui Rises [Bionicle Tribute Set]

Bionicle was a unique Lego range and one that has had a lasting legacy with many moments remembered. One of those moments was when the Great Spirit himself-Mata Nui-arose from his slumber, only to have his body taken over by Makuta. Thousands of years in story and many years in real life lead up to this bittersweet reveal of the GSR and it’s a subject matter long overdue a physical representation.

The subject of this Lego ideas project is the G.S.R (also known as the Mata Nui Robot) the body of Mata Nui and the setting of most of Bionicle’s events. I wanted to capture the titanic size and details of the GSR whilst making it an affordable size so the resulting Moc is what I have. The GSR has 53 points of articulation such as the neck and fingers and totals 2077 parts as of writing. The part count will change as improvements and updates are made.

I think this would be a great Lego ideas set for two reasons. Firstly the subject matter (the GSR) is something that never got a set in the original Bionicle range. To do it justice though it is system instead of constraction which has been discontinued. Secondly this set appeals to fans of Bionicle and many others, being traditional system and a robot it can appeal to space and mecha fans.
