Any fan of Stargate will have fond memories of ‘200’, the hilarious 200th episode of SG-1. So I thought I’d take this photo as an homage to it, as my LEGO team sets out to locate the Furlings, on their way to 10,000 supporters.

Don’t worry, Mitchell will have sorted out the zombie problem before the next update ;)

Having seen the latest trailer for Spider-Man - No Way Home, I thought, why should Marvel have all the fun?

So not an update per se, just a little fun with two huge franchises crossing over :)

I’m sure the SG-1 team will get Scooby and the gang back to their own time - as soon as the right solar flare comes along…

7,000 Supporter Update

Thank you to all my 7,000 supporters for having taken this project this far in such a short amount of time (68 days).

After all the previous updates and modifications, I think my concept looks great now… although I do have a further suggestion to offer.

My SG-1’s outfits are very simple - based, as many of you know, on one of the famous promotional posters. I’m sure LEGO will create amazing printed legs and torsos should this go the distance though.

But there’s one thing the crew are always seen with in the series, especially when venturing into a new world: a backpack filled with everything they could possibly need.

So… why not give the team some?

I really like this highly detailed dual moulded backpack, but it’s pretty rare, especially in muted colours. In fact, it’s only ever appeared once, with the Jungle Explorer minifigure, but don’t you think it looks just right for interstellar excursions?

Let me know what you think in the comments, don’t forget to add your support and to spread the word, and I’ll see you on the other side!

Thor of Asgard *, stepped through the Stargate to congratulate the SG-1 team on having reached two thirds of their overall goal.

It didn’t take long for our intrepid heroes to realise this was not the Thor they were expecting, but he now won’t leave until after a massive celebratory party.

* Thor is not included in this LEGO Idea proposal - he’s just passing through (once the party’s over) :)

6,000 Supporter Update

11 days ago, we reached Midway, you know, that space station humans built in the void between the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies.

And now, our intrepid Stargate team has reached this faraway land - well, that cluster of billions of other stars. And everything looks the same as on Earth. Fancy that.

Oh except for the chevrons which are now blue…

Welcome to the 6,000 supporter update!

It’s not a big one, just a few additional parts. As you well know, the Stargate from the movies doesn’t have lit up chevrons, so I thought it would be a good idea to include a few extra pieces so fans of that movie can recreate their favourite gate.

There’s also the gate from Atlantis of course, from the spin-off show of the same name. To be faithful to that one, I’d need a lot of gold-like pieces, but sadly most of the parts I use don’t exist in that colour, so I thought I’d compromise and just replace the trans orange parts with trans blue.

It obviously wouldn’t fit with the ramp display, but it does look great outdoors :)

As for the Universe gate… it’s too different to be easily simulated with a few swapped pieces… maybe that could be worth a model all its own… but that won’t be for this proposal.

We’re setting our sights on 7,000 now (we might even be back in the good old Milky Way by then ).

See you then!

PS: an advantage of the grey parts, you can recreate the dialling sequence like I did with in this animation…

5,000 Supporter Update

I think Bon Jovi said it best:

“Woah, we're half way there
Woah, lemon on a pear”

I am truly humbled and in awe that 5,000 people have supported my project in such a short amount of time (47 days to be precise)

This is huge - no other Stargate project - past or present - as made it this far on LEGO Ideas.

And to celebrate I thought it was high time for an update.

So many of you have asked that I include a M.A.L.P. (Mobile Analytic Laboratory Probe). These remote controlled devices were the scouts of Stargate Command, venturing first when a new address was dialled.

And I have to agree: this proposal needs a M.A.L.P. So here’s my version… It has an articulated arm, and a rotating radar dish:

But the problem was where to put it. The most obvious place is on the ramp. Except this thing has wheels. Place a wheeled object on an incline and… it’ll roll down.

I had to think of a way to secure the M.A.L.P. on that ramp, without compromising its grilled aesthetics, and I’m pleased to say I finally came up with a solution that doesn’t involve any kind of glue, or blu tack, or anything of the sort. Just brick-built friction.

It works surprisingly well, and I think it completes the look of my display perfectly.

Share your thoughts in the comments, and let me know if you suspect you’ve figured out how I did it :)

Onwards to 10,000! Or as Bon Jovi would say:

“Take my hand, we'll make it I swear
Woah, lemon on a pear” ;)

4,000 Supporter Update

It’s amazing that in just 32 days, my project has garnered 4,000 supporters. Thank you all for your trust in my design, and here’s to finding 6,000 others like you to do the same!

In the meantime, I thought it was time to share an update with you.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked you all if you had any idea what equipment each team member could carry. You answered in droves, I collated all the information, and here are the results:

First off, many of you lamented the fact we can’t give the crew guns. Dem’s the rules I’m afraid: modern weapons are not allowed (and I actually agree with that position). But what about Zat'nik'tels? These futuristic weapons are quite iconic, but the nearest part I found that even comes close, is a snake… but it really looks like the crew are holding… snakes… so let’s move on.

Colonel Jack O’Neill

We all know how much he loves fishing by his fishless pond, so why not include a fishing rod? But one of the most loved scenes of the series has him playing golf through the Stargate, so a golf club should be de rigeur, don’t you think? Alternatively, he was the first to discover a Zero Point Module, so that could be his unique items… failing that, he could just carry a pair of binoculars (I know he preferred to use a monocular, but LEGO don’t make such a piece - yet).

Captain Samantha Carter

Sam is a scientist, so a laptop would make sense for her. However, shouldn’t we celebrate the fact she created a Naquadah generator? Alternatively, we could always include her cat, Schrödinger! The first cat to ever travel to another world (that we know of).

Doctor Daniel Jackson

As a research, and expert on all myths and legends, it would be fitting for him to check out an old parchment. Or peruse through an ancient tome filled with arcane knowledge. He could also simply carry his trusty camera.

Teal’c

He’s a tricky one, but I thought a beanie hat would be ideal. He should probably carry his staff weapon, but the two Jaffas near the gate already carry one each, so I don’t know if a third would be warranted. But then I wondered about something a little quirky and fun: despite his stated distaste for “bovine lactose at any temperature”, we all know how much he can’t get enough of ice cream, so… how about a spoon and a tub?

Now obviously, I doubt I could include all of those, so if you were to choose, which ones would you pick for each of them?

Let me know in the comments, and onward to 5,000 !

We’re leaving the two thousands behind us, and starting a new expedition into the three thousands!

Thank you all for pushing this project beyond 30% in just three weeks. It’s still early days and we still have a ways to go, but we’re making excellent progress.

I need to ask you all something though: I’m thinking of adding a tool or something for each character. As you can see, Teal’c’s got his little woollen beanie hat, and I’m thinking of giving O’Neill a golf club (!)

But what about Carter and Jackson?

Obviously I don’t want to include weapons. But have you got an idea of what would be cool to include for them?

If you haven’t already, please add your support and spread the word!

Let’s dial that gate, lock all the chevrons, and I’ll see you on the other side!😀

Thank you once again for all your support, and onwards to 5,000 ! 😀
