“Luz… I’m so happy I had you as a big sister.”

Inspiration

The Owl House is an American animated fantasy television series created by Dana Terrace that aired on Disney Channel from January 10, 2020, to April 8, 2023, featuring the voice talent of Sarah-Nicole Robles as Luz, Wendie Mallick as Eda the Owl Lady, and Alex Hirsch as King, the so called “king of demons.” The show follows Luz Noceda’s adventures in the land of the Boiling Isles, as she, and her friends aim to take down the evil Emperor Belos.

Aside from it’s sharp writing, compelling characters, and its beautiful animation, the main point of praise for The Owl House is its LGBTQ+ representation, especially with Luz Noceda and Amity Blight, hailed as one of the biggest milestones for queer representation on screen. On top of this, the Owl House features other prominent LGBTQ+ characters, such as Raine Whispers (Non-Binary) and Lilith Clawthorne (Asexual).

This show really is one that has resonated with me, not just with its representation, which really spoke to me, as a queer person, but also with its wonderful story about self discovery and self actualization. And as a fan of both this show and LEGO, the only logical thing for me to do would be to make a LEGO set based on my favorite character in the whole show: King Clawthorne.

About the Build

Many people have submitted Owl House projects to LEGO Ideas before, and most, if not all of them, have been based on the actual Owl House itself. I knew that I would not be able to build a version better than the ones that have already been submitted, and as such, I built the next best thing… a buildable version of King!

On top of just being a very faithful recreation of the character, this build can also just be enjoyed by casual fans of LEGO who want a cute little fellow to put on their desk!

King’s skull features a lot of complex techniques to capture the circular shape, with much SNOT and studs on the side construction being used to build it up, but it ended up looking nearly seamless! The hardest part of the skull was definitely the horns, which went through an assortment of redesigns to capture a shape I was happy with. The snout was weirdly the easiest part of the head to design, which was just built out using an assortment of slope pieces. King also features his crown from the end of Episode 1: A Lying Witch and a Warden.

King’s body was a lot simpler to design, being built up in a style akin to a lot of other LEGO mechs/buildable characters. This model has 5 points of articulation, one for each leg, one for each arm, and one by the neck, which is hidden away by his collar. King’s tail also technically counts as a point of articulation, using a bush piece.

King is not the only build included however, the model includes a model for King’s favorite doll: Francois, as well as a shrinking potion, and a friendship bracelet. Now who would the friendship bracelet be for but Luz, who’s included in this set as a minifigure!

I hope you love this ideas project even half as much as I do, and I hope you all consider supporting this project, it would mean the world to me!
