This build was inspired by both my love of classic planes and to celebrate first responders. Airborne Firefighting aircraft are one of the greatest tools available to fight wildfires. LEGO has had many fire-fighter sets, but never one that showcases these beautiful and effective machines.
The wildfires in Los Angeles showed the world just how effective and needed ariel firefighters are, and what better way to recognize the efforts of those first responders that fought to save Los Angeles than to immortalize them in LEGO?!
This build was designed off of one of the first ariel firefighting aircraft, the PBY Catalina. I've done my best to stay true to the original aircraft. Some may prefer 'just' the aircraft. The fire fighting scene itself is actually a Technic core stand. The connection between the stand and aircraft is simply controlled through the weight of the aircraft. Whenever the mood strikes, you can lift the aircraft off it's base a swoop it around the room as if it was flying off to refuel. The wingtip floats fold down into landing configuration.
This build also allows the builder to modify the base as they wish with their own LEGO. Everyone's scene can be unique!
