The Steam Gauntlet is an exciting steampunk-themed Technic robotic crane. It is capable of four motorized functions: swiveling base, vertical lift, extending boom, and gripper. All these functions are powered by a single XL-motor at the base. A smaller L-motor toggles between the four functions. Hands-free operation is achieved using the LEGO Powered Up App.
There is an operator cab at the base of the model which features steampunk styling and gear-driven doors.
This will be a very satisfying build for experienced builders of LEGO Technic. It features a wide variety of building techniques, and offers a blend of “old school” and “new school” Technic elements. Finally, it’s super fun to operate with good speed of movement.
My earliest Technic set was the 955 Mobile Crane from 1979 and I've been a fan of Technic crane sets ever since. This model is a unique take on the Technic crane theme. I've tried to re-capture the wonder I felt when encountering LEGO Technic for the first time.
