Motorized Steampunk Airship

Take to the skies and prepare for adventure in this moving motorized airship!

Inspired by the retrofuturistic theme of steampunk, this fantastical design is full of functional elements including: 

Spinning Propellers – Float through the air with four vertical movement fans that extend out on struts, and use the balloon-mounted rear propeller to gain an extra speed boost.

Moving Pistons – Cogs, gears and crankshafts pump a set of external exhaust pistons backwards and forwards to help propel the airship through the air.

Rotating Turrets – Hook onto floating islands and capture cargo with the harpoon launcher, and do some serious arc welding with the electric tesla ray!

All of this is powered by a motor and battery box concealed within the main balloon, which extends down a drive shaft that runs through the centre of the airship and connects up with all of the various mechanisms. You can watch the video at the bottom of the page to see more of how it works!

There are three main levels on board with a collection of fun scenes and details to explore:

Engine Room & Laboratory - Descend deep in the heart of the airship to a science lab used for conducting experiments while out on expeditions, in between a network of pipes and spinning gears.

Sleeping Quarters – Furnished with bunk beds and a gas powered table lamp, the crew’s living area overlooks a curved balcony that provides a panoramic view of the skies ahead.

Captain’s Helm – Pilot the vessel with the giant ship’s wheel, using a variety of dials and gauges to assist your navigation.

Electric Generator – Bolts of lightning jump out from a tesla coil style generator that disguises the rear propeller mechanism.

Mini Airship – Scout ahead and explore tight spaces with a detachable mini airship!

Steampunk is a famous genre that has not yet been represented in an official LEGO set, and I think this motorized airship would be the perfect opportunity to celebrate it. The functional mechanisms combined with the detailed design would make it a really unique LEGO set that is great as both a fun play set and an impressive display piece!
