This is a large-scale Technic fire truck with aerial ladder, inspired by prototypes of the 1940ies and 50ies. Length is about 60cm, weight is about 2kg. The design includes over 2300 parts.
The model is loaded with functions. Most important to me was the fully-functioning aerial ladder, as this has not been implemented by Lego in any Technic model yet. The ladder may be raised, swivelled on its turntable, and extended to over one meter in length. It consists of three segments, which extend and retract synchronously. To keep the vehicle stable, strong side supports can be deployed.
The cab doors may be opened, as well as the hood, which hides a four-cylinder engine.
For even more play possibilities, I added remote control driving and steering.
Additionally, the gear box inside the cab can be used to switch the Power Functions motor to the front pump. Yes, I included a powered, working water pump, all made from original Lego parts!
Lego IDEAS still has to produce a Technic set yet, so I propose this Fire Ladder Truck. It's an all-time favourite theme, turned into a model with many interesting and educational functions, complex enough to give hours of building and playing fun, and great for display.
