This is a farmer's market Apple Stand. Complete with all the equipment needed for processing fresh apples. He sells apple sauce, apple cidar, apple butter, and of course-- plain old apples. It has an apple de-corer, and a big vat for boiling the cidar, hooked up to the heated cidar tank so people can fill their mugs. The architecture of the stand is intended to look like the arched branches of an apple tree.
I made this stand first because I wanted to see if I could make an apple sign using few pieces, and the stand came after. I grew up going to lots of farmers markets and Renaissance fairs, so I was trying to capture some of the vintage feel of these stands while also having new technology. Fitting the entire stand on a 16x16 plate was challenging, so I eventually decided to make the cidar tank sit on an attached wagon.
I think this would be a great Lego set because it takes a basic concept and does it in a unique way. A simpler stand with just a couple buckets of apples would easy enough, but I tried to include details and play features to make this simple idea really pop. I think it would feel right at home among market place sets, farm sets, and Lego city sets. You can imagine other mini-figs going about their days and stopping by on a chilly day to have some cidar or get some apples for a pie.
