Thanks for supporting!

Hi.

With the project only having 9 hours left, I wanted to thank all of my 6958 supporters for supporting the project while it lasted! This number has truly exceeded my expectations, as I only expected to maybe get only 100 supporters.

However, the time has ran out and the project will soon expire. Worry not though, as this project will return for resupport at some point, but not before I finish my new Ideas project. The re-opened project wpuld be this same model, although with some adjustments. (Although I have to admit that making Minifigure decals are quite annoying to do... Also, keep in mind, I will not answer any questions regarding this project right now)

Life is quite busy for me right now, as I started studying Information Technology back in august and I don't have that many hours in a day to work on other things.

Thanks for everything, see you around!

We are now 5000.

Hello there.

Well now... we have reached 5000 supporters, meaning we are halfway done with the attempt to reach 10000 supporters. I honestly didn't expect to get this far.

Thank you so, so much for everyone who has supported the project thus far!

Now, I doubt we will reach 10000, but regardless, the project for me has been a success. That's why I have decided to give this project another go even if we fail to reach the final goal on time.

Now about the update to the build...
Next week.

Thank you so much for everything thus far!

An update regarding the update

Hello everyone.

Thank you for the 4,500+ supporters. We are only 500 away from 5,000! Thank you for the support thus far!

Well now, looks like I have to give you an update regarding the next update on the project.

You might be asking: "Where's the update?"

The short answer to your question is that it is coming, but I still need to do some building updates and experiment a bit before I can release it.

The primary reason for the long wait has been my job training, which has now reached a conclusion. And I have good news about that: I really enjoyed it. There is also another reason for the long wait, but I'll talk about it at the end of this update.

I can, however, give some details what the update might hold (From what I have envisioned, not confirmed to appear)

The first new addition is rubber feet to the side of the model. This is done primarily to give the console a more authentic look. I planned to use 1×1 headlight bricks along with some 1×2 tiles for the feet, but... I feel they might be a bit slippery for this model. So I decided to use Rubber tread attachments instead. However, compared to the rubber feet of the original PS2, the look isn't that great on this LEGO version...
I might consider using those headlight bricks instead... I need to think about it for a bit.

(Of course, feel free to tell me in the comments which one might be better, Rubber feet for stability or 1×2 tiles for looks.)

Another feature:

You know the black "plate" between the heatsink and the Power Supply board? That has an external side of the console attached to it. (Check the 11th picture to see what I mean) If we compare that to an actual teardown experience of the real PS2, the side doesn't come off. I might change it a bit. When you remove the black plate in this model after the update, the side won't detach anymore. I do fear that it might weaken the model when placed in a vertical position, especially with the feet. But once again, I do need to experiment with this.

I do want to introduce some new prints, but I have no idea what they could be and where. If you have some ideas, let me know.

Now, what is the other reason to the wait? I'm not gonna give you a straight answer, but do keep an eye on my profile in the near future. Something will end up appearing in there eventually...

Once again, thank you for the support thus far!

(I do wish to apologize for any typing and grammar errors, it was late in the night when I typed all of that.)

We're now 4000.

Greetings.

We have reached 4000 supporters, which is quite unbelievable. I am truly grateful for all of the support thus far.

We need 1000 more to reach 5000, which is the halfway to our final goal: 10000.

I am also here to announce that I have started the design process of the next and potentially final update to the build itself, however it can take a while to come out as I am quite busy with my currently ongoing on-the-job training.

Keep sharing the project. Together we can reach 5000 and potentially, 10000.

Thank you for your support!

1 year later.

Hello everyone.

It's been exactly 1 year since this project was opened to supporters. I just wanted to thank all of my 3591 supporters for the journey thus far.

We still have some ways to go for 5000, which will extend our time by half a year. I would greatly appreciate if you shared this project around so everyone who wants this to happen can support the project.

Thank you for 1 year! Here's to at least 242 days more!

New thumbnails + Details regarding the updates to the build.

Hi.

The thumbnails have been updated to include the new Controller. Now is the time to go over the new additions to the console itself.

First of all, I did a little bit of a check with the cables in the Power Supply chip (which are represented by rigid hoses in the model, while in reality they are pneumatic hoses) The hoses don't fit through holes, so I had to fix that by using "T-pieces" in the 1x1 headlight bricks to make sure the hoses are attached properly.

In the Power Supply chip, a 4x4 plate was replaced with a 2x2 plate and some tiles. This was done just to hide some of the exposed studs on the Board itself.

In the Disc Tray, Most plates below the arch piece were replaced with tiles.

Controller revamp + An Easter Egg!

Hello.

It's finally here! The controller has been revamped almost completely!

The original intent of the update was to make the controller grips even more accurate to the real thing, but I decided to go even further. I shrunk the controller horizontally by 1 stud from each side, just to make the controller even more accurate in size.

That however, did create some challenges when it came to designing. For example, making the slopes next to the cable proved to be a challenge as the slopes used in the previous iterations didn't exist in a 2x3 size, so I had to use some advanced SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques to make it work.

The new grips were originally meant to be done using a hinge technique, but I found out that making them with plates, slopes and tiles, like the old ones proved to be a better choice.

However, I decided that a simple update to the controller wasn't enough...

So I decided to include something special.

If you remove the D-Pad and the Iconic Face Buttons and the outer sides of the controller, you'll find 6 1x1 round plates. And then, if you remove the analog sticks, some plates and tiles in the middle and some more plates, you'll find a 7th one.

If you remove them, you'll get...

The 7 orbs from the PS2 Menu!

You might also notice, but the Analog decal has received a bit of a change. The button is now smaller, just to be a bit more accurate to the real thing. The PS logo is smaller as well, along with some slight changes to the Start and Select buttons. The D-Pad decals have been changed slightly as well, now featuring the arrows, just like in the real thing!

There are some updates to the console itself, such as some plates being replaced with tiles in the disc tray and modifications to the black and white cables in the Power Supply chip. I'll go these new additions in detail once 7 days have passed, which apparently then I'm able to submit changes to the project itself once again, along with some updated thumbnails.

This update places the piece count to a whopping 2043.

We are now 3400 + Update regarding the controller.

Hey all.

Thank you so much for the 3400 supporters thus far. Your support is truly heartwarming!

Now, I have read comments both inside and outside of LEGO Ideas that you still want the controller to be better than what it is. I hear you.

I have spent the last few days doing an almost complete rework of the Controller, and it is now ready. The images should be released by Monday.

Thank you for your support thus far! Keep sharing!

New and updated prints + New thumbnails + Long-Awaited Update!

Hello there.

As promised in the previous update, I would release a new update which features new and updated prints.

One of these new prints is the USB and i.LINK Port indicators:

You may not see it, but the USB ports now have prints as well.

Some slight adjustments have been made to the Power Supply chip as well, including a new Resistor print:

The Disc Drive now has a print in the round 2x2 tile and the lens print has been updated:

I have also taken the liberty and updated the thumbnails of the project. This is done to better represent the model in it's current form. They should be visible couple days after this update is released.

But that's not all...

The controller has received a long-waited update!

The D-Pad prints have been made slightly smaller, as the old ones were a bit too big. I have also changed the 2x2 dishes used in the Analog Sticks to inverted ones for a smoother surface.

Inspired by a comment, the controller grips have been made smoother using plates. No more studded surface. However, the angled plates still have studs for obvious reasons.

I also took the opportunity and revamped the bottoms of the grips using a Round 4x4 Dome Top. This looks so much better in my opinion.

This update puts the piece count to 1937.

Thank you for the support thus far! I really, really appreciate it!
