Squirrel

I live in a wooden house surrounded by a nature reserve and its inhabitants. In my garden there are large trees and firs that serve as a playground for curious squirrels. I love to sit and observe their joy of discovery and I never get tired of watching them master the movement between the tree tops with such ease. I find these creatures so interesting and charming that I just had to immortalize one in Lego!

Thus, I present to you a squirrel enjoying a fresh pinecone directly from the branch. It could alternatively be presented as a taxidermy object at a museum – just add a little information sign in front of it and there you have it! However, I prefer living animals so I’ll go for the first option.

There is a famous Swedish children’s song called Ekorrn satt i granen, which means The squirrel sat in the fir tree. If there would be anything more Swedish than fika, IKEA or smorgasbord, it would be this song. It is so famous in Sweden that you could ask anyone between the age range newborn to sorry-you-are-not-allowed-to-build-Lego-anymore-age (99, right?) and they’ll know it for sure!

Luckily, the squirrel as a species isn’t limited to just Sweden. In fact, squirrels can be found in all continents around the world, inhabiting diverse environments. Squirrels demonstrate adaptability, thriving in habitats ranging from cities and suburbs to forests and deserts, making them one of the most widespread rodents globally.

Squirrels are known for their playful and childlike curiosity. Young squirrels, in particular, exhibit a charming blend of innocence and inquisitiveness. As they explore their surroundings, you can observe their boundless curiosity in action. Whether scampering up trees or investigating objects on the ground, juvenile squirrels often engage in games that mimic the skills they will need as adults.

Their playful antics are not just adorable but also serve an important purpose in their development. Through these activities, young squirrels hone their motor skills, learn to navigate their environment, and acquire essential survival instincts. This childlike curiosity not only contributes to their growth but also adds a delightful element to the natural world they inhabit.

Now, take a little break. Then read the last three paragraphs again, but now change the word squirrels to children and pretend the topic is about the importance of free play and creativity.

That is the main reason this would be the ultimate set.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

*Regarding the last picture: As you might notice, there are some dark brown and transparent pieces on the squirrel. Also, the fir needles and cones are in different colors compared to the other pictures. This is because it’s presented in parts that are currently in production. I was planning to upload real photos of my physical build to prove that my design is buildable and looks great. However, the web page refuses to upload it.

I think it looks great when only built with parts currently in production. However, I wanted to show you my vision, which requires other Lego colors. That’s the reason my entry is presented in crisp Studio renderings.

For those wondering – the cone tops are part 96223pb01. :)
