HCW #909 (Wakefield Steam Train)
- Author:
- Date:
Hull, Chelsea and Wakefield #909
Where did it come from
Built in 1907, it was used until the end of the Second World War and stored in reserve with some 200 other engines throughout Sweden. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Swedish government no longer needed the spare engines, and the 909 was put up for sale. In 1992, a group of businessmen from eastern Ontario, including Jean Gauthier, went to Sweden to purchase a steam locomotive (the 909) and a batch of railway rolling stock.
His story
The locomotive became a tourist attraction that was running from May to October, on the 64 km line between the city of Gatineau and the tourist village of Wakefield, Quebec. It could carry more than 500 passengers on a five-hour trip. In 2008, a landslide forced the closure of traffic on the line and the stopping of the train after it had just reached a record of 52,000 passengers. Its restart required a strong mobilization, notably by the city of Gatineau, but the train ran again on May 9, 2009. However, the torrential rains of June 24, 2011 forced the cessation of activities for the year 2011. The line was definitively dismantled in its entirety and the equipment scrapped, except for the 909 and the 244. The latter remain stored at 165 Rue Deveault in Gatineau.
Here are some facts about my model
•This model is motorized.
•There are around 2600 pieces.
•There are additional train tracks.
• There is 1 minifigure.
Why could this be a good LEGO IDEAS set
My idea could be a great Lego set, as the model is displayable with its base and playable as it is motorized and runs on classic Lego train tracks. For these reasons, this model could be a great set to have.
