The Duelists
Whatever the argument between these two gentlemen was, it certainly has not been solved in death. The duel continues and can be witnessed by visitors traveling by doom buggy through the grand ballroom. Their ghosts appear to come out of their paintings, which is not shown here. The duelists are not in the original design, but are two more of the 999 haunts.
Mr. Toad and the weather vane
The weather vane on my MOC is a nod to the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World, which has a bat as the main figure. The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland has a ship. I built a micro scale black ship but thought the bat looked much better. You can spot the poor Ghost Host in the cupola if you look closely. Sorry if the weather vane is not showing in the photo. It keeps getting cut off when I upload the picture. The Raven was originally going to be the narrator for the ride but was replaced by the Ghost Host.
Another nod to the Haunted Mansion in Florida is the tribute to Mr. Toad. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride still exists in Disneyland but was replaced by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in WDW. As a tribute to Mr. Toad a statue was placed in the pet cemetery outside the Haunted Mansion.
Hidden Mickeys
One of the fun things to do at Disney is to try to spot Hidden Mickeys that Imagineers have placed in and around the attractions. I have included two in this Haunted Mansion. One is located in the bathroom. You can see it when you look from the correct angle at the water that has splashed out of the tub. There is another Hidden Mickey downstairs on the dining room table but it is more difficult to see.
The Original Shipley-Lydecker House
Disneyland's Haunted Mansion is located in New Orleans Square but was designed after the Shipley-Lydecker house that was build in Baltimore in 1803. Sadly the original house no longer stands.
Haunted Mansion Ghosts
Not all of the 999 ghosts will fit in this Haunted Mansion but you can decide which of the following ghosts you think should be included:
The Opera Ghosts
The Black Widow Bride, Constance Hatchaway, and/or the Organist
Captain Bartholomew Gore and/or Madame Leota
The Hitchhiking Ghosts Gus, Ezra, and Phineas
Ballroom Dancing GhostsDining Room Ghosts
The Hat Box Ghost
The Hat Box Ghost has recently reappeared at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion after a long absence. He was removed soon after he was originally installed because the Disney Imagineers were not happy with the illusion, but with new technology he is back and is a favourite too many visitors. Avastindy from Deviantart has created a wonderful face for the Hatbox ghost.
Inside without ghosts present
I have added a tiled floor to the upstairs and have taken the ghosts out to show what the inside looks like without their presence (except one ghost who snuck in).
