🎵Ge, Ge, GeGeGe no Ge🎵

Hidden deep in the GeGeGe forest, lives a benevolent yokai named Kitaro (The One eyed kid in the striped vest), and his father Medama Oyaji (Eyeball Father), alongside his friend, Neko Musume (The Cat Girl in the red suspenders), and not to forget his frenemy, Nezumi Otoko (The Rat Man in the yellow robe). Here they live in peace. Until they get a letter in the Yokai Post, or Nezumi Otoko gets up to his old money-making schemes again! Other friendly characters include the wall yokai; Nurikabe, the flying cloth yokai; Ittan Momen, The sand throwing witch; Sunakake baba, and the crying old man, Konaki Jiji.

This set is based on the long running manga that started in 1960, written and illustrated by the great manga artist, philosopher, and yokai expert, Shigeru Mizuki, who had a very storied life that I could write multiple paragraphs talking about. The manga was a mix of horror, comedy, and cynical, yet hopeful social commentary; all told through the eye of Kitaro, a one eyed yokai boy born from the grave who carries a strong sense of justice and wishes to see humans and yokai live in peace! And of course Nezumi Otoko tags along to ground his perspective with his grumpy attitude and comedic timing.

The set Features six minifigures, some with reversible faces, a buildable Nurikabe and Ittan Momen, and the tiny Medama Oyaji figure made with just two pieces. For the build itself, it features Kitaro's Treehouse as the main build, with details from the manga such as Kitaro's bed made from greenery, a table and bowl for Medama Oyaji's bath, a teapot, and some cooking implements (Living in the forest isn't all fun and games don't you know?), and of course the iconic Yokai Post mailbox where Kitaro receives pleas for help from the human world.

As a bonus I included the umbrella yokai; Kasa Obake, injured Kitaro, and an enemy yokai for Kitaro to fight: the monstrous spider creature, Gyuki!

This project was a labor of love, has a total of 529 pieces, and was made as a tribute to Shigeru Mizuki and his amazing works!
