For a school project, I decided to realize a Lego set which represent the maple syrup production as done by my French-Canadian ancestors. The maple sap flows in a very specific temperature range: it must be below 0 degrees Celsius at night and above 0 in the day. Maple syrup is obtained by boiling maple sap to evaporate water. One liter of maple syrup needs about forty liters of maple sap. Collecting the sap from the maple trees was done daily using a horse carriage for as long as the sap flowed.
In my little set, you can see the sugar shack where the maple sap is boiled on a wood stove. There is a horse-drawn carriage for transporting the collected maple sap. There is also a typical maple tree tapped and a collecting bucket. The set consists of 917 pieces.
I think it would make a nice Lego set because winter scene, maple syrup production in particular, are not that common and would be a nice addition to any winter village setup. Young builders can play-collect the sap and bring it to the shack using the carriage. The roof of the shack can be removed to have better access to play inside and boil the sap. The builder can also play-chop wood for the stove. I hope the result shows how much fun I had designing it.
