Welcome to the new 7 wonders of the world.
2000 years after the Ancient 7 Wonders have been defined, the new wonders of the world were chosen by millions of people from all over the world. Out of the 14 finalist, these 7 were announced in 2007 as the new wonders of the world:
- Chitzen Itza: the Temple of Kukulcan, is a Mayan step-pyramid that dominates the center of Chichen Itza in Mexico. It was built sometime between the 9th and 12th century.
- Petra: a historical and archaeological city in southern Jordan. The city is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Established possibly as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Arab Nabataeans.
- Machu Picchu: a 15th-century Inca citadel situated on a mountain ridge 2,430 meters (7,970 ft) above sea level in Peru.
- Colloseum: an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. It is the largest amphitheatre ever built and was completed in AD 80. The Colosseum could hold, it is estimated, between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators.
- Taj Mahal: an ivory-white marble mausoleum in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
- Great Wall: a series of fortifications along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions of the various nomadic groups of the Eurasian Steppe. Several walls were being built as early as the 7th century BC.
- Moai: monolithic human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people on Easter Island in eastern Polynesia between the years 1250 and 1500. The statues can be rotated and tilted.
As much as I like the Moai, one of the 14 official finalists and my personal favorite, it was not one of the 7 winning wonders. My apologies to Brazil and their winning statue but the guidelines state: "no Religious references including symbols, buildings, or people." The model of this statue ,however, can be found on my flickr page and I will make the building plan available (somehow) for those that want to complete the official winners.
Description
The model is built on a six sided structure with one elevated model in middle. The top model can be rotated if desired. In total 1930 bricks were used and the diameter is about 34 cm.
