Fight off the brickonium loving Rock Monster with the Rock Raiders Mining Mech! The drill and claw hand are used for collecting ore and crystals which can be stored in the containment unit which attaches to the back of the mech. Knock the Rock Monsters block off and return to Rock Raiders HQ!
I wanted to build a more posable Rock Monster and something closer to what we saw in the Rock Raiders video game and comics. Paired with the Mining Mech, I think this would make a great battle set!
Notes on the build: The mech started with my fondness for the dome cockpit pieces and I built from there. The claw hand takes inspiration from Bionicle's Onua and to me it would be used in the same way to dig through dirt and rubble. The tubing leading to the drill was inspired by the gun in Lex Luthor's Power Armour mech released in 2012. The mech is very sturdy and can be posed in a number of ways without pieces falling off. To me, the mech kind of resembles a Xenomorph from Alien.
I used images of Knuckles Guardian Mech as a starting point for the Rock Monster, deciding the proportions were similar to what I envisioned. The modified 2x6x2/3 bent plate for the arms and legs did most of the work, I just build around from there (just waiting for this part to be made in brown!) I struggled to build a rounder head, similar to the Rock Monsters in the Rock Raiders video game and comics, so settled with the jagged square head (reminds me of the ABC Warrior from the 90's Judge Dredd movie).
