This is Newton's Cradle. It is a device that demonstrates the conservation of momentum and the conservation of energy. These are often seen as desk items and are exceptionally beautiful and functional at the same time. They also provide some relaxation and calming energy to often otherwise busy workplaces.
I thought that creating a Newton's Cradle in LEGO form would be a great idea. The entire build is only 282 pieces and small enough to fit into a small space. In addition to its sleek design, there is movement involved. The technic pins allow the balls to swing freely.
New update as of 8/11/2021: Felt the set needed a minifigure so I've added a custom Sir Isaac Newton.
