MAST-U Tokamak: A Fusion Energy Wonder in LEGO Form!
What is it?
This LEGO model is a meticulously crafted representation of the MAST Upgrade (MAST-U) tokamak, one of the world’s largest operational spherical tokamak, located in the UK and run by the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA). Spherical tokamaks like MAST-U are at the cutting edge of fusion research, paving the way toward achieving clean and sustainable fusion energy. The model captures the intricate details of this advanced fusion device, including the central column, poloidal and toroidal field coils, armoured plates designed to withstand intense plasma heat loads, vessel port windows, and gas valves. Built at an approximate scale of 1:10, this set provides a visually stunning and educational tribute to one of humanity’s most ambitious scientific pursuits.
Why did I build it?
Fusion energy has always been a personal fascination of mine due to its potential to revolutionize the way we power our world. MAST-U, with its innovative spherical design, represents a significant step in this journey, and I wanted to bring its inspiring engineering to life in LEGO form. By creating this model, I hope to inspire people of all ages to learn more about fusion energy and the incredible science behind it. Build Information:
The design contains approximately 4400 pieces, with colours carefully selected to match the design. I used Studio software to ensure every part of the model aligns with existing LEGO elements, balancing form and functionality.
