The Inspiration
While assisting my daughter with research for her school assignment. I came across a quote from Henry Royce which happens to be the motto for Rolls-Royce, “Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it.” a quote that I heard many times before in my youth as it was and maybe still are one of my father’s favourite quotes that he liked to incorporate in our motivational chats. It also explains why my father always refers to the best version of any product as the Rolls-Royce of that product. This quote also reminded me of the LEGO motto "Only the best is good enough". Created by Olé Kirk Christiansen to encourage his employees to never skimp on quality. It was interesting to me how these companies with a similar mindset have become the household benchmark for their respective market when people compare luxury vehicles or interlocking bricks. The thought then came to mind in my father’s measurement methodology that LEGO is, the Rolls-Royce of all interlocking bricks. With that thought, I could not help but think what a Rolls-Royce would look like if built with LEGO?
The result, my version of a Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII with options
The Idea
Both my son and I are fans of the new 8-stud-wide scale. It’s the perfect crossover medium for all generations, where vehicles size makes it more fun to play with and are also beautifully designed, making them easy to collect and display. The best part is that its size makes it more affordable and more accessible to a much greater number of LEGO consumers. I want LEGO to incorporate a wider variety of iconic vehicles in the new 8-stud-wide scale., with the inclusion of their respective theme-related minifigures.
The Design
The Rolls-Royce Phantom was designed in scale to fit in with the new 8 stud wide vehicles that were introduced by LEGO in early 2020. I wanted to provide options with the build, so I incorporated an easy interchangeability function to my Roll’s-Royce Phantom design to expand its play and display ability as either hardtop saloon or converted into a drophead Coupé.

If you are a fan of Rolls-Royce and other iconic vehicles, and you would love LEGO to release more of them on the 8-stud-wide scale, which would also accommodate your minifigures and enable you to collect more sets, please support this project.
