Welcome, we want to share with you our Medieval Clock.
With our , we refer to my father's project that made it out of wood.
With his help and suggestions I recreated with Lego all the mechanical elements (trees, wheels and mechanisms), necessary for its operation.
So our team is made up of me and my father, and we use a single user to propose our ideas.
What is it? .. first of all it does not pretend to be a real clock.
It is the LEGO reproduction of a wooden homemade model that we have on the table in our living room.
It is operated only by the force of gravity.
It is inspired by the first medieval mechanical clocks that exploit the Verga and foliot mechanism.
The weight moved by the force of gravity, sets in motion 13 gear wheels all reconstructed without using lego technic gears.
The Verga and Foliot opposes the fall of the weight, thus creating the alternating motion and the typical tick-tock of the clock.
We have two dials, one with the second hand, one with the minute hand.
The Hour is instead indicated by the carousel of hours, where the new hour always appears thanks to the force of gravity,
the old one withdraws thanks to a cam and a technic shock absorber.
Once recharged we have an autonomy of about 36 min.
We built it in LEGO so that once it became a set everyone could build it without having special workshop equipment, and by exploiting the precision of Lego bricks the operation is always guaranteed.
We think it would be a fantastic LEGO set for the following reasons:
- It is a unique LEGO set.
- The construction is not as complex as it appears, basic LEGO pieces were used.
- It is a display set given the slender shape and the shiny and large gear wheels.
- Once completed the set will have to be adjusted to obtain the correct period of one second, this creates even more involvement in the assembly.
- Once activated, the movements of the gears are very satisfying and hypnotic and once the charge is finished you immediately want to put it back into operation.

The model is made up of approximately 4950 pieces
