New 60 day/100 supporter milestone
This change to the way LEGO ideas works hastwo impacts on this project. Its got meet the milestone and the change needs to be incorporated into the game. Update to follow very soon.
Version 1 rules
He is my first attempt at a set of rules for the game. I wrote a basic program which used the game mechanics to see how the 12 ideas in a game would do. The mechanics have been refined as the early attempts meant that either everything made it to review or failed to make 1K. The rules below mean that out of 12 ideas there is fairly even spread of ideas failing to make a milestone with some picking up the 1K and 5K milestone badges, a few making review and the odd one passing and having a winner. What this didn't do was take into account gameplay where people are at different stages of the game such as having two or more ideas in Review.
I hope the rules are clear, please post a comment if anything needs clarification.
LEGO ideas the Game
Rules
Version 1.1
Stage 1 - Having the idea
Roll a 6 to have an idea.
Decide if you are taking some time to develop your idea
If you decide to develop your idea put it on the 'Develop' square - move it along one square on your next turn until you land on the 'Submit' square. If you are going straight to 'Submit' place your idea on the 'Submit' square and end your turn.
Stage 2 - Submit your idea
Roll 2 dice, on a double 6 your brilliant idea fails to meet the LEGO ideas rules and is Rejected.
Your ideas is lost and you must start again.
Stage 3 - See how well your first month went.
Roll a die a 1 or 2 move your idea counter on the support tracker 1 or 2 spots.
If you developed you idea you can re-roll up to twice - however, the last re-roll counts (worth doing if you didn't get any supporters - think carefully if you have 100)
If you got a 2 then mark your ideas as popular
Move to the Month 1 square
Stage 4 - collecting your first 1000 supporters
You have up to 12 months to reach this milestone
Every Month
Add up your score for the month
Roll a die and on a 1,2 or 3 add 100/200/300 supporters
Is your idea popular - if so add 100 supporters
Are you on month 3,6 ,9 or 12? Roll a die and if you get a 6 you are a Staff Pick add 300 supporters, mark your card as a 'Staff Pick' (you can only be 'Staff Pick' once.)
If you have 300 or more supporters mark your ideas as popular (if you got less than 300 then remove popular mark from your card)
Reaching 1000 supporters
take a 1K badge and move onto Stage 5 for your next turn
Fail to make 1000 by the end of month 12 and unfortuantely your idea has failed
Stage 5 - the race to 10K
Add up your score each month
Roll a die - 1 to 4 is 100-400 supporters
If your idea is popular this month add 100 supporters
Roll a die - 5 is an internet article add 500, with a 6 you have gone viral add 1000
if you get 300 or more supporters you are popular for the next month
Move your counter on the supporters track by one stud per 100 supporters.
If you get 5000 supporters before you complete month 18 then collect a 5K badge
If you get 10000 supportes before completing month 24 then collect a 10K badge and move to waiting for the review
If someone is already waiting for review you join them in their square
If you don't get the 5K or 10K milestones by the end of months 18 and 24 then your idea has failed.
Stage 6 - Waiting for the LEGO Review
If you are the first person in review place your idea counter in the first 'Wait' square
Each turn move your counter one square closer to the LEGO Review
If someone is already waiting for review you join them on the same 'Wait' Square - all ideas waiting for review are reviewed together.
Stage 7- The LEGO Review
The LEGO ideas team look at many aspects of your submitted idea, test build and refine the idea, market research, obtaining IPR ensuring it meet the LEGO ideals.
To simulate this complex process all players in review roll three dice, and must get 2 out of three rolls of 1 to 4 to pass.
Stage 8 - Winning
Passing the LEGO Review makes you a winner, if nobody passes review then the winner is decided by adding up the highest value of milestone badges each player's idea achieved.
