Modular Medieval Village

Hi Lego fans! The 5k milestone is approaching! This is the most important intermediate goal in our journey to 10k supporters, since we are almost halfway there, so it's time to post some close-ups of the village's modular system! 🤓

As probably you have read in the description, the three buldings of the village are connected together by pins. But the three other modules are just 8x16 or 16x16 plates that use "stones" (2x2 round tiles) and objects to stick together with each other and with the three houses 💡

The three buildings host their owners: the Poor Man, the Nobleman and the Guards' Family. The other three modules instead host the other villagers and some "urban" furniture... So let’s take a closer look at the ones in front! 🤩

Here’s the Bandit, the Knight's Statue and a street lamp:

Here we find the Baker's Son, his stand and another street lamp:

And finally here we have a small brigade: the Guards' Son, the Young Falconer and his falcons, the Wanderer together with his trusty dog and a road sign!

Today I would like to talk you about my favorite building of our village, the Nobleman's Tower House 😊

During the Middle Ages tower houses were buildings designed for defensive purposes as well as habitations. They were also used inside the cities as aristocratic residences. Towns like San Gimignano and Lucca in Tuscany, Italy, still preserve today a good number of towers, but some centuries ago there were hundreds!

When I started to design the Nobleman's house, I wanted him to live in a building like this 👍

It is not a rule, but I often start sketching my buildings on Studio just by using white bricks and not much else... 🤓 And in the beginning the tower had to be only 6 studs wide, as you can see in this Version 1.0:

I thought that the tower should be made of stone, that's why the plates that divide the floors on the left are dark bluish gray.

Shortly after I decided to flip the building horizontally 😅 This is how the Version 1.1 looked like beside the Poor Man's House, that at that time had already been published on my Instagram account, albricks_workshop:

Since I was not satisfied with the result, I decided to start over by restoring the tower on the left and giving the same space to both the sections of the building 💡 In this Version 2.0 the tower itself could be detached from the house to become a stand-alone 8x16 module! 😅😱

But in the end I opted for a single 16x16 building with two entrances on the ground floor, two large balconies on the first and second floor, a roof on the right and the top of the tower on the left 🤓 Finally here you can find the Version 3.0:

And after many other intermediate stages... This is the final version that I have included in our village 🥳

Hi Lego fans! Thank you all for your help to reach over 1500 supporters in 3 weeks. My first two projects stopped their race before the goal of 500 supporters in... a year and a half 😅

Today I will start posting here some details of the village buildings and characters.

Let's start with two interesting villagers: the Wanderer and the Young Falconer.

The Wanderer was born as an independent project during a lazy summer afternoon in the mountains and I guess that a good number of people liked it on Instagram because it is based on a few very accessible parts. Some other Lego fans posted their own versions over the months. This guy has also been featured in major projects by other MOCcers! 

The Young Falconer is in the company of two brick-built falcons. One of them apparently wears a headset but this actually represents the hood used to cover the eyes of the falcons when they are at rest. This is a weird detail but still today I find it very funny! 😂 I hope you like it too!
