THANK YOU! OBRIGADO! GRACIAS! MERCI! GRAZIE! DANKE!

We went past 9950, with almost 300 votes in the last day, so it looks like we really might make it to 10,000.  I wanted to make an update here before the update window closes and it becomes too late to say "THANK YOU" to each and every person who has voted for the project.  I greatly appreciate your support in helping to make this dream come true.

Thank you to my wife for her constant support, her understanding of the time spent on the project, and her many efforts to share the project with friends and acquaintances.  Thank you to my older two children for supporting the project and to my youngest for helping with the building and photographing/filming.  Thank you to everyone in my family for voting and spreading the word.  Thank you to all my friends - both old and new! - for all of your help.  Thank you to GlenBricker for your willingness to partner with me on this project, as well as all of your advice and guidance along the way.

The help that we have received from the Saint-Exupery Estate has been absolutely amazing!  Thank you to "M" and "T" at the estate for their unwavering support throughout this journey.  And I greatly appreciate the fantastic "M" in France for being willing to work so closely with me to get the word out about the project.

I want to say a special thank you to some friends I've made around the world (I'm in the U.S.) as a result of this project: "A" in Italy, "R" in Brazil, "C" in Canada, "E" also in Canada, "S" in Argentina, "G" in Mexico, and "J" in Malaysia.  Your passion and your efforts to share the project with friends in person and/or on social media sites have been extremely helpful in getting us to the finish line.

Thank you to the LEGO Ideas staff for selecting this project as a "Staff Pick" back on February 4th.

Thank you to these websites, TV station, and newspaper - and others - for their articles and stories on the project:

Thank you to Antoine de Saint-Exupery for writing this wonderful story that I've loved for three decades, and to Ole Kirk Kristiansen for creating these imagination-inspiring plastic bricks that I've enjoyed for four decades.  Thank you to my Mom and Dad for buying my siblings and me all of those LEGO sets when we were kids.

Finally, THANK YOU again to YOU for taking to the time to register and vote for this project.  I cannot fully express in words how much I appreciate people from around the world logging in to this site and voting to make this dream come true.  If I could play music in this update, I would play "Kind and Generous" by 10,000 Maniacs... "I want to 'Thank you!' 'Thank you!'.."

Why "The Little Prince" LEGO project would be a successful LEGO Ideas set

Here's just a short list of reasons why "The Little Prince" would be a successful LEGO Ideas set:

  • The themes in the book are a perfect match for LEGO - for example, the adult aviator who hasn't forgotten what it was like to be a child is like the AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) who enjoys using his or her imagination to build wonderful creations, the importance of imagination in the story matches the importance of imagination in playing with LEGO, and more
  • It appeals to literature lovers as well as aviation and space enthusiasts
  • It is a story loved and appreciated by children and by grown ups who haven't forgotten they were once children
  • The set itself - the airplane has the "swoosh" factor, the asteroid uses interesting (SNOT) techniques, this would be only the 2nd appearance of a fox in a LEGO set, and it captures significant elements of the story (the asteroid/home of the little prince with the rose under glass, the airplane flown by the narrator, and the fox with the foxhole & apple tree where the little prince first met him).
  • It will have achieved 10,000 votes (crossing my fingers!!!)
  • There are millions of fans of the story around the world (for example, 7+ million FB followers for The Little Prince FB pages)
  • The fans of the story are very passionate about it (for example, check out the fan art, tattoos, and the books about the story and about the author)
  • There have been 300,000+ cumulative "likes" when the project was posted on Facebook
  • The Little Prince LEGO Ideas Campaign Facebook page has the most followers of any project campaign page on Facebook (over 6,200 fans)
  • It was voted the best 20th century French novel
  • There 200+ million copies of the book in print
  • It is the most translated book in the world (other than the Bible and the Quran)
  • The recently released movie (directed by Mark Osborne - "Kung Fu Panda") has enjoyed critical and commercial success in France and Brazil, and will be release around the world in the coming months (so the timing of the movie would also help any set succeed)
  • Any possible LEGO set based on the story would be "unique in all the world"

Literary LEGO and Libraries

Reading is fundamental!  It teaches and inspires and gives us that much needed escape.  LEGO is a lot like that too.  It allows us to translate our imagination to the real world so we can express our selves and share our ideas.

With "The Little Prince" LEGO set we are hoping to use the power of LEGO to bring this literary powerhouse to whole new audiences.  And for those adults who are already fans of the book, give them the opportunity to embrace the joy of taking a moment for themselves and play with some LEGO.

We realize that this project actually has a lot more potential than that though.

There are Libraries everywhere across the world in need of books.

If LEGO decides to produce The Little Prince LEGO set, we will use 25% of our proceeds to donate copies of "The Little Prince" to needy libraries all over the world.

What you can do to share "The Little Prince"

Brickset.com article about The Little Prince LEGO project

Thank you to Brickset.com for the fantastic article about the project!  I think the "Brickset" effect really helped, as we received over 700 new votes after the article was published.  A number of people remarked that they didn't realize there was an airplane or a fox included with the project, so now you can see the whole thing all put together!  We are now at 7,294 votes, with 139 days to go.
