This LEGO creation is a tropical escape to a beach on Maui, Hawai’i. It is designed to be on the southside of the island in Kihei or Wailea. The mountains on the right hand side are the West Maui Mountains and the one on the left is part of the island of Kaho’olawe.
Growing up on Maui, I spent a lot of time at the beach and watching sunsets. As a painter, I take inspiration from the colors in the sky and often paint sunsets. For this project, I followed my usual art process but used LEGO pieces as my medium. I hunted around the house to find whimsical little pieces that I could incorporate to create fun textures and details.
Up close this design has a lot of colors and hidden pieces, but for me the true beauty is when you step back from it and appreciate the whole scene. I hope that this artwork can inspire you to step back and take some deep breaths, imagining yourself on Maui watching a serene sunset, calm and relaxed.
The turtles in the front represent me and my baby son because now that he exists, he is at the forefront of my mind all of the time :)
I believe this piece will make an awesome LEGO set because:
a) It was very fun to build, especially if you like little details
b) It looks like art so it is a good way to introduce LEGO into people’s houses and wall decor
c) Personally, I have it hanging in my house and it brings me joy every time I look at it – I am transported back to Maui. And you can be too!
Thank you for taking the time to view this LEGO art and if you like it, please vote and share!
Special thanks to my husband who is the biggest LEGO fan in the house. If it weren’t for all of the extra pieces that came with the sets he bought, I would not have discovered my love of fiddling with LEGO.
Also thanks to my cousin for skillfully editing the photos.
Thank you very much! - Mahalo nui loa!
