Ra's Boat

This build represents Ra's boat, from the egyptian mythology. Ra is the god of the sun and is the most powerful god from egyptian mythology. It is said that he crosses the sky on his boat carrying the sun, during the day he travels over the world, showing the light of the sun to Egypt, and during the night he travels through the egyptian underworld.

Ra is usually represented as a god with human body and hawk head, so I used the body form a pharaoh minifigure and the head from an eagle warrior minifigure to build him. For the boat I based the design on representations of boats from the ancient Egypt and I made it in brown and gold. There are twelve oars to move the boat. Over the boat there is a throne made of gold so Ra can rest during the travels. The throne has a 1 x 1 plate with a clip to hold the lance, and a big orange circle on it so when Ra sits on the throne and is seeing from the front, it looks like the image of Ra from the egyptian hieroglyphs (in that hieroglyphs that circle repressents the sun). I also made a small sun chained to the boat so the ship can carry it. As a final detail, I added over the sun a snake. That snake, in the mythology, is in charge of protecting the sun during the night, when the boat is crossing the underworld.

I love mythology, so I decided to make a lego set based on it and I chose the egyptian mythology. I like those gods because each one has the head of a different animal, and I chose Ra, who has a hawk head, and then I chose to recreate one of the most important myths from that culture: the myth of the sun, the source of live. With this build I also want to transmit my love to mythology and ancient culture to others, because I think this is the funniest way of learning about history and ancient culture.

I think this would make a great LEGO set because it is playable due to fact that this is a boat. Therefore, it is small enougth to work as a decorative motive in any place, that every mythology lover could enjoy having in their house.
