Lisbon Kiosk
Kiosks are small commercial spaces intended for the sale of magazines, newspapers, lottery tickets, refreshaments and snacks.
Lisbon Kiosks first appeared in Lisbon, in the late XIX century, near the main squares, in the wide "Avenida da Liberdade" ("Avenue of Liberty", then named Public Garden), and along the riverside area.
In some cases, kiosks also exceptionally sold fried fish, olives and cod fillets.
In the 1980's, the tradition of kiosks was resumed. This was part of a plan devised by the Town Hall to recover such places and protect part of the cultural identity of the city of Lisbon.
