Goodbye to the Year 3000!

Not so good news, everyone!

So this is the end of my Futurama BrickHeadz project on LEGO IDEAS.
It expires in one day, and it seems that the idea of Futurama BrickHeadz does not appeal to enough people to carry the project through. Or maybe I just didn’t advertise it aggressively enough. Or I was not lucky enough for the right people to see it…

I might try to re-submit it, but if I want to do that I will need a better strategy how to advertise it. It still baffles me that 10000 people want a minifig-scale sewer, so the dynamics of the IDEAS platform are beyond my comprehension.
But let’s be real here: two Futurama projects reached 10000 votes, and both were not approved, so even if my project would make it through, it would be highly unlikely that it would make it into a real set.

Instead of re-submitting it I might be making the instructions for the individual Futurama BrickHeadz available on my rebrickable, so keep an eye out there if you’re interested (my user name there is olivercgoetz, just like on Twitter and Instagram).
Let’s go round again with the forward time machine!

Planet Express signing off!

Futurama Title Screen

I'm planning on showing this project and all my Futurama BrickHeadz at the Skærbæk Fan Weekend in September, so I made a little thing to make sure it won't get overlooked… 😁

600 Supporters!

We have reached 600 supporters and I want to thank everyone who has already supported the project.
This has crept up on the guys and so they hadn't prepared for the 600 supporters celebration picture in time...
As you can see, Bender is still struggling to get the new sign up. 🤣

Merry Christmas! Flee! Flee For Your Lives!

Not exactly an update of my project, just a little holiday fun to commemorate the Futurama Robot Santa episodes.

The tree is from LEGO set 40338, designed by Mel Caddick.

500 Supporters Celebration

We broke the 500 supporter threshold and the whole gang is celebrating!

Bender is already excited about the upcoming holidays.

Many thanks to all supporters!

Physical Build and Bender 2.0

Physical Build

As announced in the last update, here is a better picture of the physical build. Most changes because of unavailablity of parts in the used colours were necessary in the Planet Express ship and I had to go for lime as the main colour.  Everything else turned out pretty close to my digital design.

You cannot imagine how satisfying it was to finally be able to put together the model for real and see that everything fits together as I imagined. It's just a joy to have it now on my desk and be able to touch it and play around with it!

Bender 2.0

The new Bender design is a different story: both versions exist as physical builds, but I always had a feeling that something wasn't right with my first Bender design. Turns out the head was just too big and square to make for a good representation of our favourite bad robot. So I tinkered some more with the design, made the head smaller and rounder. Also I changed the framing around the eyes, because I felt it was more important to have the frame go all around than to have a round frame, but only half around. I think the new design does more justice to the character than the old one. Please let me know in the comments what you think.

I will update the main entry with photos of the physical build and new renderings to include the new Bender design also in the digital version once I get around to make render the pictures.

Real Life Build done!

Some color and parts replacement were necessary due to unavailability of some of the elements in certain colors.

Also modified the design for Bender.

Proper pictures on the weekend.

400 Supporters!

Our heroes are celebrating 400 supporters...

WAIT A MINUTE! What's going on here!?

Bender looks different... wait: what's that behind the display?

Looks like Flexo has crashed the party and put Bender out of commission, hiding his body behind the stand... unsuspecting Fry and Leela haven't noticed anything!

What has Fry done now?

Looks like Fry has gotten himself into some trouble...

Use this link for an image size of 1920x1080 which is the right size to be used as a background image for Microsoft Teams (and I'm sure it's usable for Zoom as well), so feel free to use it on very hot days in your online meetings.
