5000 votes deadline!

Thank you all very much for your awesome support! I am glad so many people seem to like the model and even share it among friends and colleagues. I enjoy reading your comments on all social media :D

Isn't this a wonderful sight?

Structure update

The weight of the bigger hoses pull the poles they are attached to slightly off balance. In order to prevent that I added a sort of roof and a centre pole to keep both "hose poles" from tilting. If no good or unrealistic, I will look further for a solution.

Real life build

As promised, some pictures of the model built with bricks instead of pixels. The chimney turned out to be a bit more luxureous that anticipated :) I used chrome parts instead of grey simply because I didn't have any grey ones. Some bits and bobs have differnt colors but it is quite similar to the original design.
I added some LED lighs to see how it would look in the dark. Could use a few more but I had only 5 (please ignore the wires).

Several updates implemented

Hey all, thanks for so many responses and votes in such short time!

I have read the suggestions of several people and as promised implemented them.

  • Railtracks are now dark stone grey instead of medium stone grey
  • Helmets with ear protection added and looked for faces with safety glasses. Was not much choice but I am sure the designers could come up with something. I added some possible other heads with glasses. Gloves they were already wearing but was hard to see maybe. (see picture)
  • Changed the structure far right with the white ball like container (see picture)
  • Added a clip on top of chimney for increased stability of ladder
  • Deleted 2 items to make room for am additional stability point for the ladder
  • Option: use yellow lattice wall pieces instead of grey? I like it, gives more color to the lab (see picture)
  • Different hose on the loading station. It is thinker and longer but also heavier. Had to increase stability of the pole but the weight still pulls it off centre. Maybe add a cente pole in between the two with maybe an overhanging glas roof? Will post picture when I think of something.
  • Added an info tile to the side of the train cart (no photo)
  • Added some possible other layouts and ideas on how to implement the set with other lego creations
  • Still have to add the lights all over the place, but will do so!

I hope I covered all suggestions sofar, if not , please let me know. Please excuse the pictures being screenshots instead of renders.

Train cart alternatives

In the latest review blog some reasons where mentioned why a product may be rejected. One of them was feasibility:

" Feasibility

  • Sometimes projects contain elements critical to the build that are no longer produced, which would mean the model wouldn't be feasible. Other factors overlap into the feasibility of a project."

In the train cart model I designed, the red and green elements only apeared in one set according to Bricklink (in dark grey). That was in 2015. That is not so long ago so the model may still be available.
The white slender tank elements in white go back to 2009, so they may be a bit old.

To avoid rejection based on those elements I designed alternative models. Personally, I would prefer the bigger version. The middle version uses different elements for the red and green stripes and different elements for the tanks. I also made it smaller to reduce piece count. The third model has alternative elements for the red and green stripes but has the tank elements of the first model. In real life I built the middle version.

2nd Milestone reached !

This is amazing, it is going a lot faster than I had hoped. I spent all evening gathering and sorting bricks from storage and sending out Bricklink orders so I can build the model.  I just checked in to see what is happening and we are over 1k!

Awesome!

Thanks all, I will post pictures of the model a.s.a.p.. It will look a bit different since not every item exists in the color I used but that is not so bad. Happy building all :)
