2001: A Space Odyssey is packed with influential and iconic imagery, and the HAL 9000 computer is easily the most popular element to come from the film. Running the Discovery One spaceship, HAL controls the ship and poses a threat to the astronauts when trying to conceal the mission's true purpose. Highly quotable, recognizable, and menacing, the Heuristically programmed Algorithmic computer deserves a spot in the LEGO Ideas lineup.
This set requires no more than 200 pieces, utilizing a light-up brick to achieve HAL's distinct red and yellow eye. The low piece count would allow for a lower price, and it would be on the more affordable end of the Ideas line. Fans of 2001 and film alike would enjoy this icon of cinema on display, as would I.
