Tick, Tick, Tick...

Two bright blue eyes pierce through the swirling fog, unblinking and seemingly suspended high above you. The creature takes a heavy, deliberate step, causing the ground to echo and shudder as a massive foot connects with the earth. The enormous figure moves into the soft glow of the street lamps, illuminating its true form: a colossal clockwork dragon.

Steam hisses gently as it cascades from the iron pipes atop its head, mixing with the fog and twisting around the machine in an ethereal dance. Gears click and whirl, while a golden clock ticks away within its chest, its rhythmic sound resonating through the night air.

From within the fog, a voice suddenly calls out, “Hey there, sorry to startle you! We’re just going for a test run!” A frazzled inventor dashes forward and grins at you. “So, what do you think of him?”

The Design
The "Clockwork Dragon" is a steampunk-inspired LEGO model, depicting a mechanical wonder that is a fusion of steam-powered mechanics and fantastical design. Constructed from wood, gold, copper, iron, and other metals, this dragon features iron pipes that curl from its head, reminiscent of horns, venting excess steam in harmony with the pipes protruding along its back. The frame, crafted primarily from timber, conceals the intricate clockwork mechanisms and marvels of engineering that drive its movement. Heavily armored with metal plating running along its back and limbs, the dragon contrasts this rugged protection with its expansive, yet delicate fabric wings. At the centre of its chest, a large, elegant, golden clock is embedded and framed by ornate gold filigree, a testament and reminder of the beauty of engineering. The design also incorporates a wealth of gears, pistons, gauges, and cabling that work in tandem, further showcasing the craftsmanship of this marvelous machine.

The design of the Clockwork Dragon takes inspiration from the classic steampunk aesthetic of exposed pipes, gears, and metal accents that evoke the spirit of Victorian-era technology, fused with a futuristic structural and armoured design.

The LEGO build consists of approximately 2,900 pieces, with a fully articulated design from head to tail. Its exceptional flexibility allows for a wide range of poses, making it perfect for both display and interactive play. The wings are easily detachable, providing an additional customisation option. The wings are intended to have cloth attached, but have not been shown due to modelling limitations.

This set has potential for further customisation and features such as:

  • Alternative armour plating sets (eg. gold or silver)
  • Additional tail accessories (eg. different utility items, or a fabric tail fin)
  • Alternative decorative accessories for the neck and tail
  • A secret compartment/cockpit for the pilot minifigure

Minifigures
This set includes two minifigures: the Clockwork Dragon's pilot, and the brilliant inventor behind the creation, along with the inventor’s loyal Tonkinese cat, who’s along for the ride!
