As someone who enjoyed walking through the streets of cities like Beijing and Tokyo (both having their respective postcard sets), I wanted to see a design that could resemble a fraction of South Korea's capital, Seoul. As I wondered and asked which areas of the city were the most relevant for the whole theme, I asked myself: "Where do I think of when I hear 'Seoul'?" As a result of this I have decided to include the following key areas.
Seoul Postcard, introducing four key places of the amazing metropolis:
- N Seoul Tower (남산서울타워): Not only is this tower symbolic to Seoul, but it is also a major touristic spot. Located on top of the Namsan Mountain standing at 236m, Namsan tower is also one of the tallest buildings in Seoul.
- Gyeongbokgung Palace (경복궁): Being the royal palace of the Joseon dynasty and a touristic spot where people dress in Korean traditional clothes (한복), I knew this place had to be featured in the post card. While the surroundings of the area are mostly sand-colored floors, the inclusion of the stairs and the ceiling designs was fundamental, using brand new pieces featured only a few times in other Asian inspired buildings.
- Hanok Village (한옥마을): Being while not exactly it being the one in Jeonju, I figured the architectural design of traditional Hanok located in the mountains would be a great addition to this set. This idea was entirely used from the original design linked at the beginning.
- Han River (한강): Symbolic for splitting the capital in two. On both sides of the river there are always activities that can be done. While The river appears to separate Namsan Tower and the palace, this is not entirely accurate to the actual outline of the city, as both attractions are located on one side of the river together. I somehow wanted to include the river in this set, using the transparent blue elements on the middle of the set.
I am aware that places like Lotte Tower could have also been featured in the set, but scaling wise it would have needed to be taller than Namsan Tower, which is a build that already exceeds the limit of the postcard.
The purpose of this post is to get feedback, as it is much appreciated.
