Thank you for your support

This project's 18 month journey ends today, it gathered just short of 3300 supported and climbed up to 48th on the most supported list. Thank you to everyone who support, shared and followed this project. It will be back for one last try and I hope you like the final design and will support it again.

Completed design review

I have competed a design review of the top section of the Arc de Triomphe and this is the planned final format. It is looking unlikely that the project will make the next milestone but I am planning on resubmitting. This is an opportunity for any final feedback/comments which could be helpful with the resubmission. Thanks to everyone for their support to date and, if the project needs to be resubmitted, I hope you will support it again.

A LEGO Arc de Triomphe in Paris

A bit of fun with the revised design and photoshop to put the model in the heart of Paris.

Windows and a natural colours

The shields on the top of the Arc de Triomphe are set in square rather than rectangular recesses. Redesigning this section for the shields also allowed for square ornate windows to be set into the two ends. In reality these windows provide light and ventilation for the museum area.

I am stil experimenting with more natural coloring of the building and would be grateful for any feedback.

Thanks for taking the time to check out this update - as always click on the image below to see it full size and uncropped.

More detailed top section

Over the months since the project first started I have continued to develop my model of the Arc de Triomphe. At first it was in answer to some comments I recieved but I've also continued to work on it to make it as realistic as possible. This update includes modifications t the internal arches and a revision of the top section above the row of statues. The increased detail does increase the brickcount to1600 but I have yet to do a ground-up rebuild to ensure the count is as low as possible.

The colour scheme is a more natural white and grey, brick yellow was my own invention to add a contrast to avoid a monochrome model. I have also rendered it in the original colours.  I would appreciate any comments on the colour.

Thanks you for supporting. Click on the images below to see it in more detail.

Top 1% of projects but in need of help

Hello

The project has 3 months to run but at the rate its gaining supporters it is in danger of falling short of the 5K milestone.

Its does not appear to be easy for a project to make 10K just on normal LEGO ideas fans' support; this seems to work out at around 1 supporter for 6 viewings, if you look at some of the projects that make it to 10K most are much higher ratios - even up to 1:25, but these have had help by either celebrities tweeting to their followers, or have found large fanbases for the movie or show they are associated with.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and followed this project. Please consider sharing the project with friends and family and encourage them to do the same, perhaps it can gather enough support to stay in the race.

Building instructions - Part 1, The Base

Thank you for your support - This is a first of a series of updates which will make a complete free building guide for the project. Not all pieces are available in the colour shown; this project relies on the Lego Ideas rule that you can use different coloured bricks from those currently available.

New Base and lower brick count

I noticed that in most photographs of the Arc de Triomphe people were sat around the base. There is a definate step at the bottom of the legs which I had originally modelled with angled bricks. I have redesigned the legs to have the flatter base.

I also took the opportunity for a rebuild. The project started with a 1300 brick count but over the months of refining the design the count had slowly increased to 1500. Without losing any of the detail I have managed to get the model back to its original brick count.

Thanks for everyone's support so far. Click on the pictures below to see them full size

Smooth panels

Looking at the original Arc de Triomphe the mid section panels squares are flatter to the sides of the monumnet than orignally modelled. In the picture below I have removed the frames from around the middle section. Please leave a comment if you have a preference with or without the frames.
