A visit from the Old Passenger Car

After delivering the Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln needed a ride back to Washington. He telegraphed Lego Ideas user cheeseinthepie, who quickly sent his Old Passenger Car to Gettysburg to give the President a lift.

Thanks to cheesy for allowing me to bring our two projects together. For more information on this great Lego Ideas design and cheesy's many other trains, click on the following links:

An interesting fact about Abraham Lincoln was that he did not have a presidental rail car. One had been authorized by Congress during the final years of the War, although Abraham Lincoln hated the idea as too lavish and expensive. The rail car, known as The United States, was completed just before Lincoln's death. It became the funeral car that took Abraham Lincoln's body back home to his final resting place in Springfield, Illinois.

The rail car was never used by a President again. It changed ownership many times before eventually being destroyed by a prairie fire in Minnesota in 1911.

February 23, 2018 - Alternate color scheme

In 2014, the Gettysburg Railroad Station was painted to match the historical colors from 1863 -- white with brown trim. This, of course, is what I used in my Lego Ideas submission.

But prior to 2014, the station had a very different paint job -- yellow with olive green trim. If you search Google for images of the station, you'll find many photos with these colors from just a few years ago.

Out of curiosity, I changed the colors of my Lego Ideas model to match the pre-2014 color scheme. The finished result is attached. In addition to the primary colors of Bright Yellow and Olive Green, I changed the roof from New Dark Red to Reddish Brown, and the sidewalk color from Brown to New Dark Red (which is supposed to represent brick, as the sidewalk today is laid with brick). Finally, I changed the railroad ties from Earth Orange to Brown.

What do you think of this alternate color design? Let me know in the comments!
