Who doesn’t love Korean BBQ!?
This restaurant has been a community gathering place for years, built from the hard work of a Korean family and delivering great times and food to many in the community!
I recommend you take a look at the UPDATES to see a cool promo video!
About the Model.
The restaurant is a two-story building that combines the beauty of mixed-color bricks, lots of natural vegetation, and the structure of an old Korean temple. The front of the establishment boasts a large BBQ sign in both English and Hangul (the language of Korea), adjacent to a rock outcropping that reveals a quaint waterfall that drops into a wishing well, all abound with bright and fresh vegetation. It offers plenty of dining areas and an upstairs balcony to support patrons meeting in small and large groups.
On the first floor, patrons enter a reception area where they are greeted by a host and pointed towards either individual eating areas or a large fancy gathering room adorned with a vivid mural of the entrance to a Korean temple set amongst Mount Seoraksan, one of the highest peaks in South Korea. The first floor also includes a large kitchen for preparing food, a large beverage refrigerator, a public restroom, and the backdoor which leads to an onsite vegetable garden and an outside oven for keeping BBQ coals hot.
The second floor is accessible by a central staircase, offering individual eating areas and a buffet area for prepared foods, as well as access to the upstairs balcony and a special area for ice cream and cold desserts that make kids very happy.
Several other details unique to Korean restaurants are also featured, including an overhead exhaust system to remove smoke from the BBQ grills, split-system air conditioning units, and an instant coffee maker near the front door for patrons to enjoy upon exiting the restaurant.
The most challenging part of the build was trying to resemble the traditional style of Korean architecture for the temple-style roof.
This set was built entirely with physical bricks (no software tools), which made this more challenging, but I enjoyed every bit of building, deconstructing, and rebuilding to make this set.
Why Build a Korean BBQ Restaurant?
Eating Korean BBQ is always an enjoyable experience, involving fellowship with loved ones and friends. And, you don’t have to be in South Korea to enjoy what is always a great experience!
Although I’ve lived in South Korea for many years, I’ve eaten in Korean BBQ restaurants in the United States and Germany and the experience has always been the same – great! Everyone, including the cook, the host, and other workers, is always smiling, talking, and laughing, creating a uniquely rich experience accompanied by tasty meat and veggies.
Living in South Korea, I grew a great appreciation for the communal and inclusive culture which embraces a balance between nature, ancient history, and the modern world. I also learned how much many South Koreans also love building with Lego blocks. I’ve often tried to think of a way to display my admiration of South Korean culture using Lego blocks in a way that appropriately shares my experience and transcends the diverse cultures of the many fans, young and old, that enjoy creating and building with Lego.
This is a really great Lego set!
It’s a really fun and colorful set, with plenty of pieces, and lots of great details that just make you feel good when you are building it. The size is just right on one baseplate which fits nicely into the landscape of any Lego city, or on display with other exclusive model sets.
And, it tells a great story about a family-owned restaurant. The lady owner enjoys preparing food, meals, and sweet treats for endless patrons. It is a labor of love for her that is also shared by her daughters who enjoy serving the customers and tending to the garden in the back of the restaurant. The male owner enjoys hosting, keeping the property maintained, and keeping the outside oven running hot to ensure that customers have fresh coals to keep their BBQ hot and tasty.
Whether you are a fan of South Korean culture or BBQ, I believe this set would look great in your collection!
