Hello all! Introducing my newest model: the modular Downtown Square!
The model:
This set was created in the format of the creator expert modular buildings. It sits on two baseplates with a combined area of 32 x 32 studs. The model took about a week to design, and consists of about 2,970 parts, with seven minifigures, one cat, and one dog.
The set is fully modular, and can come apart in two baseplates. Each individual floor can also be removed for ease of access to the interior. There are two main building structures, with six levels altogether.
The green building:
This building sits on its own 16 x 32 stud baseplate. Details on the exterior include a phone booth, bike rack, lamp post, and fountain on the sidewalk, as well as an exterior staircase to reach the second level and a small water tower on the roof.
On the bottom level is a bike shop which is run by the resident of the apartment above. It features bicycles, motorbikes, as well as individual parts such as wheels, handlebars, bells, and lights. Directly outside it are the stairs to the next level up.
On the next level there is an entrance hall to the apartment with a hat rack, some decorative mementos belonging to the resident, and a staircase to the uppermost level. Behind the stairs is a kitchen/dining room furnished with a table, an oven, a stove, a sink, and a refrigerator.
On the final floor there is a bedroom with a bed for one minifigure, adjacent to a tank for the resident’s beloved pet scorpion. The room is once again furnished with decorative items from the resident’s travels.
The blue building:
This building also sits on its respective 16 x 32 stud baseplate, and features details on the exterior such as street lighting, a staircase to the upper level, and a poster for a lost cat.
Inside the ground floor is a sports shop. The shop sells merchandise for scuba diving, basketball, football, tennis, canoeing, skateboarding, and much more. Directly adjacent to the door is a staff desk with a cash register.
On the next floor up, accessible from the exterior, is a fine Italian restaurant. Its first level has a reception area for customers, and several tables for dining. Opposite the entrance is the door to the kitchen, where the food is prepared using the available facilities of a dishwasher, sink, oven, stove, refrigerator, and chopping table. Behind the dining tables at the back of the restaurant is the spiral staircase to the final floor.
The last storey is furnished with more dining tables and a stage for musical entertainers. The stage features details such as a brick wall design behind, ornate curtains, and stage lighting. To the left of the stage is the door into the performers’ rehearsal room, where they can prepare for their shows.
I believe that this model would make a great official set both because of its display value with its vibrant colours and detailed exterior, and because of its play value with its modular system, minifigures, and interiors.
