Using dice instead of cards?

First of all, thank you again for all the nice words and support so far!

So an idea popped into my head: In the original game, as some of you know, there are cards telling you which spot you have to use. The unique thing is that it's relative to your seating - a top left corner to you is a bottom right corner from the pov of a player sitting opposite to you.

Anyway, how would the game change, if there was a die telling you which BLOCK you must build into, but you'd choose the SPOT? It would give actually more freedom (6 in the original, 9 in this case). If the game becomes less interesting  obviously the idea was born dead. Needs playtesting. The die would be so much easier to throw in (because it already exists!) than the cards.

OR, make it two dice: one with numbers 1-6, second with 0-3 and two "throw again until you roll a number" sides. Sum of the dice would be 1-9. The empty sides of the second die could alternatively provide something extra, like destroy one piece from the block x or build freely into block x, where x is the number from the first die.
