Passifloras, also known as passion flowers and passion vines are tropical tendril-bearing vines, with incredibly showy flowers, and the well known and widely loved passionfruits, also called as maracujas. There are many species and cultivars grown all over the world as decoration plants, fruit bearing vines and food for caterpillars.

This lego interpretation of the passion flower is based on the species Passiflora alata, and display a small piece of the vine, a single opened flower, an unopened flower bud, 4 complete leaves and a single fruit, with detailed inside (seeds and pulp). The model is botanically accurate, with tendrils, nectary glands on the leaf stalks, and all the delicate parts of the flower.

As a botanist, and Passiflora collector, I was always impressed by LEGO's Botanical Collection sets, and decided to build this amazing plant - or at least try it. I believe it would be a great addition to the Botanical theme.

For display, I have choosen a wooden-brown piece of a 'fence' - in cultivation, passionflowers are usually grown climbing on fences or mini ladders.
