One Chase Manhattan Plaza was designed by Gordon Bunshaft of SOM and finished in 1961. It is one of the most recognizable buildings in New York's lower Manhattan skyline. Due to the hilly location, the streets meet the plaza at different heights. When you sit in the plaza, it's like resting in the bottom of a shady canyon, quite an experience and one of my favorite public places in New York.
The plaza has a recessed rock pool designed by Noguchi, and the sculpture "Four Trees" by Dubuffet. There are actual trees there as well.
Shown here with 40 Wall St and Federal Hall.
A compilation of my pictures from the site.
