Introducing the Serena Williams Building, located on the Nike World Headquarters campus in Beaverton, Oregon, USA. Designed by Skylab Architecture, it spans one million square feet and rises ten stories, making it the largest building on campus. With its radiating wings, bridges, tunnels, and balcony gardens, it’s also one of the most fascinating. The Serena Williams Building is a commanding work of art that matches the boldness of the Nike brand itself.
My Serena Williams Building LEGO set showcases some unique features such as the landmark tennis court, grand tree and reflection pond, the car road under the long wing of the building, the footbridge over the river, the restaurant at the top of the tower, and the nearby parking garage and gym called “Coach K”.
Why The Serena Williams Building Should Be A LEGO Set:
If you're a fan of tennis, Serena Williams, Nike, or even just interesting architecture, this would be an amazing set to display on your shelf or hang on your wall. With its bold angles and dynamic alignment, the Serena Williams office space is both (a) an inspiration to Nike’s footwear and apparel designers and innovators, and (b) a tribute to the unmatched power, skill, and mental toughness of one of tennis’ greatest athletes. The ingenuity of Skylab Architecture is represented in another LEGO set, the Cullen House from the Twilight Saga.
Inspiration:
I have a deep appreciation for novel architecture, whether experienced in real life, through photos, movies, or video games. I'm constantly impressed by LEGO Architecture sets — the clever miniaturization of iconic structures never fails to delight my brain. I've worked in at least one building that’s also a LEGO set; the Flatiron Building in New York City, and that building’s in more than one LEGO set!
When I first saw Skylab Architecture’s 2021 presentation about their design of the Serena Williams Building — delivered from a stage inside the newly completed structure itself — I liked it so much I got inspired to design the LEGO set of the same. I think LEGO is an incredible “edutainment” tool, and LEGO Architecture is a great example of that. Today, my goal is to inspire others through my LEGO-ization of one of my favorite buildings.
