The Taube (meaning ‘dove’ in German) actually dates from 1910 but was pressed into service as a reconnaissance aircraft at the outbreak of war in 1914. These aircraft were unarmed, although observers increasingly carried pistols and rifles aloft as hostilities increased. In my opinion this is one of the most improbably elegant aircraft ever to fly. This model is in Austro-Hungarian colours.
