As an AFOL I have a passion for brick built animals. My first foray into LEGO MOCs was about a year ago and my first build was a horse, which underwent many redesigns. When the Build A Gift, Give A Gift activity was posted I decided to put a rocker under my horse, a bow on his side, and submit him - as well as several clones of various colours. The submission seemed to be very well-received. I decided to make some adjustments to my rocking horse and submit him to LEGO Ideas. I chose the colour of horse that seemed to be the most popular one in the activity, improved some weak clutch points in the build, removed the (very large) bow and replaced it with a saddle. Horses really do come in this striking colour scheme, though very rarely, so it is likely that the colours alone will draw attention to this build.
As far as I am aware LEGO has released only one brick built rocking horse and that was a 49 piece poly bag back in 2012. Today, there are far more elements available that allow a more realistic rendering of animals of any kind. Rocking horses were an icon of my childhood. Children who had one had a distinct edge on being socially popular. Nostalgia has created a huge demand for all things that take a person back to their impressionable years. It is time to revisit this classic toy and give it the attention that it deserves. I believe this would make a great LEGO set because, after all, who doesn't love a pretty pony?
