The UN describes climate change as the defining crisis of our life time, and the climate emergency has been described by the Secretary-General as a race we are losing, but one we can win. Already warming seas and changing landscapes have been devastating to humans and animals around the world, and these problems will continue to get worse as the world warms.
This piece seeks to raise awareness of the challenge, and some of the amazing creatures, already critically endangered (or vulnerable in the case of polar bears) that will disappear soon unless we change how we live our lives. It features one from each continent on the planet, placed on a map of the world.
- Californian Condor
- Blue Throated Macaw
- Black Rhinoceros
- Polar Bear
- Sumatran Orangutan
- Western Swamp Turtle
It is set against a frame inspired by Prof Ed Hawkin's climate stripes (https://showyourstripes.info/s/globe), which visually set out the changing global temperatures since 1901, to demonstrate the problem we face.
It focuses on a sad topic, but there is hope, and that is what this seeks to represent.
