4 8 15 16 23 42 … EXECUTE

Even if you’re not a numbers person, millions of people recognize these iconic digits from one of the most popular television series ever created. Lost just celebrated its 20th anniversary this past year, having aired its first episode in September 2004. What better way to celebrate than to bring it back to life through the world of LEGO!

While the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 were navigating their new lives on the island, little did they know that a man named Desmond was living below them in an underground station called The Swan (aka the Hatch), entering these numbers into a computer every 108 minutes to prevent another “incident” from happening. When Kate, Locke, and Jack finally decide to descend into the Hatch, we are introduced to one of the many mysteries the island holds — a world where the DHARMA Initiative once thrived and where the Others have since taken over.

As a big fan of the series, I found the Hatch to be a perfect centerpiece to recreate in LEGO form. Not only is the revealing of the Hatch a pivotal twist in the story line, but so many memorable and important moments take place there.

THE BUILD…

In its simplicity, the Hatch is an underground concrete bunker, so not a lot of time is spent on building the walls themselves. The foundation plates and upper connecting plates represent the soil and earth that sandwich the bunker. The fun in this build is truly in the details as you put together a lot of small, story-specific objects that are placed in the living space and computer room. I went with an open-ceiling concept so that these small builds could truly be enjoyed and appreciated. The floor plan closely follows the series’ original blueprint of the Swan station. You’ll build the computer room, the hallway, the main living area, the armory/bathroom, the bedroom, and the pantry. Each room is individually built and can be connected or separated from one another.
