The Phillie Phanatic

He is the official mascot for the Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball in the U.S. Introduced in the late-70s, he was a hit from the first day and his been roaming the field and stands energizing the crowd and pulling hi-jinks on the opposing team. Everyone loves the Phanatic!

Why I Built It

The family and I moved to Philadelphia in 2008. That was the year the Phillies won the World Series and broke the Curse of Billy Penn. It was pretty easy to jump on the bandwagon.

Philadelphia sports are blessed with two all-time great mascots: the Phanatic and Gritty. I recently saw someone had created a version of Gritty (mascot of the Philadelphia Flyers - hockey) in our favorite bricks, although it had been done about five years ago. Based on one picture I found online and a snippet of video, I reversed engineered and built it. Gritty is now displayed proudly on a shelf in my office.

Having a Gritty, I knew I needed the Phanatic. I searched online to see if anyone had designed a version of the Phanatic, but I couldn't find one. At least not a good one of a decent size. Challenge accepted!

Here is my version of the Phanatic. I outfitted him in the throwback powder blue uniform as the pinstripe uniform would either need newly designed bricks or stickers. A few of the bricks in the arms and the star on the back of the jersey don't currently come in the color I used, but anything's possible once it's approved :-)

I designed the model so his head turns and the arms have some movement as well.

Why It Would Make a Great Set

There have been sports-related sets in the past. More recently there have been sets of famous sports stadiums. Though these have been large, detailed, and more expensive seemingly geared to a more mature audience.

I think this model would appeal to everyone, especially kids. Everyone loves a good mascot. Kids could play with him while watching the game. Maybe even bring him to the game. So many possibilities.

So come on all you baseball fans and mascot fans, let's make this set a reality and get this to 10K votes!

Thanks for your support!

This may be the perfect year for it based on the way the Phillies are playing. Hopefully another World Series is in the cards!
